Guitar lesson 3:

Lick of the Week: Jason Becker – A Lil’ Ain’t Enough solo

For this week, we’ll be taking a look at one of the most iconic solos by Jason Becker. Jason Becker is widely recognized for his work in Cacophony with Marty Friedman, his solo album Perpetual Burn, maybe we’ll take a look at that soon! But many people tends to forget that his work with David Lee Roth is astounding. When we often think about Jason Becker, we often associate him with all the fast sweep picking, alternate picking, neoclassical side of things, but in this particular solo, he carefully chose notes from the blues, pentatonic, and mixolydian scales here and played to the changes perfectly.

Lick of the Week: Picking Sequence

This week we’ll be covering a sixteenth note triplets run in the style of Paul Gilbert, it’s entirely alternate picked. Be sure to practice slowly with a metronome before increasing your speed. If you are into the early Paul Gilbert or Racer X, this will be your cup of tea!
